anguard Academy Beethoven Secondary proudly congratulates Mia Elizondo for making school history as the first student from our campus to advance to the State level of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) High School VASE Competition. Her artwork, titled “Self Perpetuating Growth,” will compete alongside pieces by student artists from across the state of Texas.
The Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is one of the most respected student art competitions in Texas. It recognizes high school artists who demonstrate exceptional creativity, technical skill, and the ability to communicate ideas through visual expression. Students present their original artwork to jurors and discuss their creative process, artistic influences, and intentions behind their work.
Under the instruction and mentorship of art teacher Luis Contreras, Mia has demonstrated remarkable dedication throughout the competition process. Reflecting on her achievement, Contreras shared:
"Mia has a tenacious spirit that does not stop. Her determination and commitment to her artwork truly set her apart."
Mia will represent Vanguard Academy Beethoven Secondary at the TAEA High School VASE State Competition, which will take place in San Marcos, Texas, on April 24–25, 2026.
We are incredibly proud of Mia’s historic accomplishment and wish her continued success as she prepares to represent our school at the state level.
